Obituary of Winona Taraya

On July 6, 2015 we came to an unexpected turn in our life. We lost our beloved Winona Taraya (Wendy). At the age of 47 Winona went to see her father, Nanay, Tatay and handsome baby boy. Winona was born April 18, 1968, she attended Visitation Catholic School and Mt. Tahoma. She is survived by her 4 children William Miles III, Gus Taraya, Immanual (Manny) Taraya and Keoni (Bear) Taraya. Also her mother Wilma, 3 brothers Floyd, Leo and Oneil, her sister Windelyn and her countless nieces and nephews. She will be missed by our community of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Her commitment to the native culture was important to her for her children to learn the heritage of our past. On the Filipino side, she loved to cook lumpia, chicken lugow and pancit. Her overall peace came from her children. Winona had skills to fish, geoduck dive, a continued worker through Puyallup diversity, bingo management, worked at the casino and food concession stand and was self employed selling fireworks. As I write this I keep thinking of how she would say, "Middle of five children made me", to, "what lies ahead" and "afraid of being like my mother". Ha, Winona would have thought that was hilarious, at least I think so. Wake will be held Sunday 6-9 PM at the Puyallup Tribal Youth Center and Funeral is Monday at 11 AM at the Youth Center. Arrangement by Piper-Morley with Oakwood Hill funeral home
