Obituary of Donna Delores Hetrick

Donna Hetrick, 76, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on September 20, 2013. Donna was born in Heyburn, Idaho, on April 10, 1937 to Edwin and Geneva Ames. She was a member of Burley Methodist Church and she graduated from Heyburn High School in 1955. Donna attended College of Puget Sound (now UPS) and would have been from the class of 1959, but she met Harvey Hetrick at college and they were married on November 28, 1958. She often remarked that she had received the degree of "Mrs." She started attending Westminster Presbyterian Church while they were dating in 1957. She was a paraeducator, working with preschool children at several elementary schools with the Tacoma School District, mostly at Horace Mann Elementary School and retiring in 1996 at Arlington Elementary School. Donna was a long-time member at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she sang 1st soprano in the choir. She was an officer with Westminster's Women's Association and served as an Elder and a Deacon. She was also very involved with other activities at the church, including adult fellowship groups (Firesiders and Mariners), Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She was involved in many offices with the Presbyterian Women and Church Women United. She worked tirelessly to advocate for charitable organizations, such as SE Tacoma FISH, Associated Ministries' Pierce County Hunger (CROP) Walk, Bread for the World, Heifer Project, and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, and by her brother, Leo. She is survived by her children, Leland (Betty), Kathleen, Douglas, and by her brothers, Gerald (Geraldine) and Lanny (Naomi). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 2 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 5236 E. B St. (54th & E. B St.), Tacoma, WA 98404.
