Obituary of Lelia G. Henderson

Lelia G. Henderson Slipped quietly away after a short illness on September 4 at the age of 92. She was born in Camp Crook, South Dakota on August 11, 1915. She traveled alone to Baltimore in the 30's to train for work with the Social Security Administration, then returned to Rapid City, where she met Homer Henderson, the love of her life. They married in 1944, and had three children, the first of whom died in infancy. When Homer was disabled in the mid-Fifties, Lelia returned to work, and supported the family until her retirement. In her later years, she lost her husband, her younger sister, and a beloved grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Alison Sonntag, and her son, Homer, Jr., as well as five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren,and two great-great grandchildren, as well as stepdaughters Shirley Gilbuena and Mary Lou Pudlewski and numerous step-grands. She died surrounded by those she loved, and now rests with those who went before.
