John V. Zajac
John was born in Tacoma, Washington to John A. and Helen Zajac on July 19, 1923. He attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary grade school, St. Martin's High School and graduated from St. Martin's College with a BA in Business.
During World War II, John served with the Coast Guard in the South Pacific from the invasions of Saipan and the Philippines to the occupation of Japan after the surrender of the Japanese Forces.
John worked in the retail industry in Rhodes Department Store and in banking and in military commissaries.
After Irma passed away, John married Pearl Kaplan.
The Catholic Church was very important to John throughout his life. Prior to John's membership at St. Martin of Tours, he was active in All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup. At St. Martin's, John was a lector, extraordinary Eucharistic minister, member of the Parish Council and very active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
John was a member of American Legion WA Post # 67 in Puyallup and VFW Post #15049 in Fife and Council 9238 Knights of Columbus.
John was preceded in death by his wife Irma of 50 years, parents John and Helen Zajac, brothers Joseph and Paul, sisters Clara and Loretta.
John is survived by his loving wife Pearl Zajac, sisters Lois Olsen (husband Floyd), Gertrude Puryear (husband Richard), Sister Margaret Mary O.S.B., brother Anthony, stepchildren Rachel Foote and Walden Irby, and many nieces and nephews.
The Visitation and Viewing will take place 9:30 a.m. in the side chapel, the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., all on Tuesday June 5, 2007 at Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Fife, Washington. Remembrances may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus in care of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Fife, Washington.
