Obituary of Gregory E. Mykland

Greg was born in Tacoma on October 22, 1943 and his battle with cancer and scleroderma ended on February 9, 2008. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1962, served in the U.S. Navy on submarines, spent 8 years on the Tacoma City Council from 1986-1993 and was Deputy Mayor from April 1991 to December 1993. Greg retired from Pierce Transit as Senior Transportation Planner in 1996 with 30 years of service. Greg was an avid outdoorsmen and sport enthusiast. His music was another passion. A singer from his youth, Greg sang semi-professionally with several groups. His gift of music was always shared with his faith community. Leavenworth, Washington was a second home for Greg where he enjoyed time with his extended family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Margie, his beautiful children, Jenna, Stephanie, Troy, and Greg, his 5 grandchildren, his brother Lenny, and sister Lynn. Greg will forever live in their hearts as an example of someone who loved his God, family, friends and country. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Allenmore Oncology and Franciscan Hospice House. Vigil/rosary will be held Friday, February 15, 7pm with funeral Mass Saturday, February 16, 11am. Both will be held at Visitation Catholic Church: 3314 S. 58th St. Interment held at Calvary Cemetery.
